Betsey Bailey, an enslaved woman, was the grandmother of Frederick Douglass who, along with her husband Isaac Bailey, a free man, raised their grandchildren, including Frederick, son of their daughter Harriet Bailey, in their cabin on a large plantation in Tuckahoe on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
