On September 13, 2020, while responding to a 911 call for a domestic disturbance regarding a mental health issue involving a person with a knife, a Lancaster City Bureau of Police (Pennsylvania) officer shot and killed Ricardo Munoz (1993–2020). Following the shooting, in the town of Lancaster, demonstrators protested against police brutality and systemic racism.

The officer involved in the shooting was placed on leave while the district attorney's office was investigating the shooting to determine if the use of lethal force was justified. 

On September 15, 2020, the Lancaster County Coroner said the cause of death was gunshot wounds to the body and the manner of death was homicide.
