Floyd Carter, Sr., (1923–2018) served his country as one of World War II's Tuskegee Airmen and served his adopted city as a New York City Police Department detective for 27 years. Born in Yorktown, Virginia, he also flew planes in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He received several honors during his life, including the Congressional Medal of Honor, bestowed by President George W. Bush in 2007, and serving as the grand marshal of the 2015 Bronx Veterans Day Parade.
